~ From 1919 to 1963 to 2023 on
As a result of my research on this historical organization from its founding, through the process, at times, I became confused about some of the facts concerning the Mission Statement.
So I thought to provide the "Mission Statement" to clear up my confusion and that of others on this subject making a listing of its progression through the years.
The very first discussion of a mission statement came from Rev. C. P. Eklund who was a key instigator in the founding of this first historical organization to be named the Lindsborg Historical Society in 1919. Mrs. Elizabeth Jaderborg writes:
"Rev. C. P. Eklund called the meeting to order. He said that the citizens had been called together 'for the purpose of organizing an Historical Society or Country Club, whose mission it would be to improve the roadway and the top of the Bluffs, part of which could be secured by a long term deed through the generosity of Mr. Ferm; to possibly build a shelter for visitors there and also secure data pertaining to the history of the community; and preserve historic buildings and places of interest.'
With that in mind, a second key instigatore finetuned the mission statement as found in

From the 1919 Lindsborg Historical Society's
The "mission statement" of this historical organization from the beginning in 1919 when it was named the Lindsborg Historical Society was defined by community leader G. N. Malm from "G. N. Malm: A Swedish Immigrant's Varied Career" by author Dr. Emory K. Lindquist, page 156 as follows:
'To collect historical data, books, and pamphlets and manuscripts pertaining to the early history of the settlement; to collect, maintain and preserve works of art and objects of historical value; to preserve and beautify places of historical interest and to promote the study of the history of our settlement, its cultural growth and development by lectures and other available means.'
From the 1963 Smoky Valley Historical Association's
". . . shall be to collect, arrange and preserve historical data, books, pamphlets and manuscripts pertaining to the early history and settlement of our community in general and the City of Lindsborg in particular; to preserve and beautify places of historical interest in our city and its vicinity; and properties entrusted to the Association, and to promote the study of the history of our settlement and its cultural growth by lectures and other available means."
