Without Mr. Stewart's story on Mr. Max Muller, SWEDES would be lacking a most important piece of theater history in Lindsborg. Thank you, Mr. Stewart!
It is a delight with great appreciation to have a sample of Mr. Stewart's writing, along with the photograph images, about this larger-than-life Mr. Max Muller.
We learn that this very talented man as an actor and a singer was born in nearby Marquette, Kansas. Later, after studies at Bethany College where he studied voice, he lived in New York City and studied acting there and became part of the Broadway scene. This in turn, would eventually pay off big dividends for Lindsborg when he returned and founded Broadway RFD in 1959, the theater of which has maintain the reputation of being the longest running outdoor theater in Kansas to date.
Further, we learn that Mr. Muller was the author of the 1976 Prairie Carnegie, The Story of Presser and Ling, a most important book on the Messiah and St. Matthew Passion performances and on their impressive national and international performers who became part of this local yet international Lindsborg history.
Here is Mr. Stewart's story.
