- Mr. Tim Stewart
and as President creator of the 2024 SVHA website
Mr. Tim Stewart has certainly made and is making a fine contribution to passing on to the Smoky Valley people their needed local history that could have never been discovered if it were not for his desire to educate the Smoky Valley people on their history through his special gifts of research and writing. This is why in March of 2016, as vice president of the Smoky Valley Historical Association (SVHA) board of directors, he created the "Vår Historia Newsletter" and began authoring the Valley's stories. "Vår Historia" is Swedish for "Our History." Through his leadership as board president of the SVHA since August of 2017, each year a series of educational lectures are presented by the locals on certain important historical Smoky Valley moments that highlight notable persons of those times.
Also, in October of 2024, Mr. Stewart created the second Smoky Valley Historical Association website due to technical difficulties on its first website, a masterpiece in its time, that was created in 2013 by former board president Chris Abercrombie (1949-2017). This new and modernized website's name is "Smoky Valley Historical Association" and the LINK is: smokyvalley-history.org.
It is also very important to note that Mr. Stewart is in charge of the SVHA Facebook page and is a member of the Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum where he serves on the Board of Directors and on the Exhibition Committee.
Under Mr. Stewart's SVHA leadership the membership has increased substantially over the recent past years to over 150 members. This truly reveals the importance these members place on preserving and promoting this Smoky Valley history for future generations that began with the settlement of two Swedish colonies.
As for Mr. Stewart's creating the wonderful "Vår Historia" stories, we read from the website the following:
"Tim Stewart created this publication March 2016, after recognizing the need for more interaction with the community and continued local historical education. The name simply is the Swedish translation of "Our History." With the exception of one early issue featuring a story written by Max Muller, Tim has written all articles. In 2020 the publication schedule was adjusted to follow the calendar year, and it continues to be published bi-monthly. All past issues are available to download as you scroll down this page."
