~ Honoring her as Bethany College's “first” graduate to become an International Opera Singer
Her début had her starting as Desdemona in Giuseppe Verdi’s Othello at New Jersey State Opera, that performance of which was followed by that at the Paris Opera’s Verdi’s Requiem performance. This was the beginning of a whirlwind of outstanding performances that Ms. Copley performed nationwide and worldwide covering 5 continents. Thus, she began her career as being applauded by the critics, as “one of America’s most gifted vocalists.”
In addition, she made special soprano soloist appearances at Lindsborg’s Bethany College Oratorio Society Messiah performances, and, for a season, she joined the Bethany College faculty to teach various classes.
She was honored as "Musician of the Year" from the Kansas Federation of Music Clubs in 2004. Bethany College also awarded her with the Gold Award for Achievement.
Ms. Copley grew up in the shadow of her most gifted and dynamic father, Bethany College Oratorio Society Messiah Conductor, Dr. Elmer Copley, as well as her mother, Ruth, also a gifted musician.
As a Bethany College graduate, she continued her studies at the University of Colorado, the University of Texas and in New York City. She retired from her position as Director of Vocal Studies at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas, to become a voice teacher and clinician from her private voice studio, which is very popular with serious students eager to learn her techniques.
