~ The Compiler and the Words of Mr. A. John Pearson
Mr. A. John Pearson's articles which have appeared in the Lindsborg News-Record and in the Bethany College Magazine and Bethany's other special publications for over 50 years have beautifully informed and educated the Smoky Valley people on their history.
Here is "A short history of the "Messiah Festival" that was written by him for the occasion of the Centennial Oratorio Society performance in 1982 for Bethany College. The publication of which he was in charge of was part of the record album that was being produced for this 100th anniversary celebration. On the album's front cover are these words with the picture of at least a 500 plus member chorus in Presser Hall at Bethany College.

This history of five pages was published in 1982. Mr. Pearson writes, "This historical summary of the first 100 years of the Messiah Festival is presented with acknowledgement to Dr. Elmer Copley for research into the history of the Messiah Festival in his work "Messiah on the Plains, 1882-1976, A History of The Bethany Oratorio Society," and to Dr. Emory Lindquist for material contained in his book, "Bethany in Kansas: The History of a College" (Bethany College Publications, 1975).
Mr. Pearson put this history together beautifully with his own words for the record album, portraying accurately "the way the Swedes were" in Lindsborg, Kansas, at Bethany College, over a period of 100 years.
This is where you will find a concise and accurate exciting history of the early Handel Messiah performances of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.
