To remember these "Bethany College Buildings" is to remember the "Bethany Family" of their era & their early "works" upon which the College stands today.

During Lydia's and Emil's time at Bethany College, and that of their friends and colleagues, the institution's buildings that they knew intimately during the leadership of Founder Dr. Rev. Carl A. Swensson and President Edward Nelander were the Bethany Academy, 1882; Ladies Dormitory / Lane Hart Hall, 1883 / 1899; and Old Main, 1887; with Rev. Dr. Swensson only was the "Messiah" Auditorium (Ling Auditorium / Ling Gymnasium),1895; and during the leadership of President Dr. Rev. Ernst F. Pihlblad were the Swedish Pavilion, 1904; the Carnegie Library /Bethany Library, 1908; and Presser Hall, 1927.
Of the five (5) buildings on the Bethany College Campus that Lydia photographed, only one remains, the Swedish Pavilion, which was relocated in 1969 (along with the Bethany Academy not photographed by her) to the Swedish type open-air museum south park at Lindsborg's McPherson County Old Mill Museum Heritage Park. The other four (4) college buildings were either destroyed by fire or razed to provide needed modern buildings.
Please note that the dates associated with the buildings may vary by one (1) year, as to the year either being the "groundbreaking" year or the "dedication" year.
