Arthur was the son of David N. and Hannah Lindell Lindquist. He was born March 17, 1903, on a farm northeast of Lindsborg, baptized in the Messiah Lutheran Church, and was confirmed with the class of 1917. He received his education in Lindsborg schools and graduated from Bethany College in 1926 with a degree in biology.
On August 5, 1928, he was united in marriage with Juanita Orr in Longmont, Colorado. In 1929 Art and Nita moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where he entered graduate school at Kansas State University, from which he received the Master's degree. He joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a research worker in entomology, where he compiled and an admirable record during his tenure.
Art retired back to his family farm near Lindsborg in 1962, but continued as a member of the International. Atomic Energy Committee. He received much recognition for his accomplishments in his chosen field of science. He received a well-deserved honorary doctorate from his alma mater in 1953, the Alumni Award of Merit from Bethany College in 1962, and the Royal Order of the North Star from the Swedish government in 1976. During his retirement he made numerous trips overseas as a consultant in his area of expertise. He served as a Scientist-in-Residence at Bethany College from 1964 until 1971. Dr. Lindquist loved the farm, and Leon Lungstrom made numerous visits to his home to talk with him about insects and their relationship to man's health. Leon also was a classmate of Art's brother Bertil.
Lindquist rejoined the Messiah Lutheran Church on his return to the Lindsborg area and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Dr. Lindquist passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday, March 11, 1980. Surviving him were his wife, Nita, and two sons, Donald of Washington, D.C. and Roger of Corvallis, Oregon. Also surviving him were grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial was at the Smoky Hill Cemetery directly at the foot of Coronado Heights, which was close to the farm that he enjoyed so much.
