Swensson's "Bethany Lutheran Church" and the "Augustana Lutheran Synod"
Rev. Olof Olsson, founder of Bethany Lutheran Church, after seven years of settling and living in Lindsborg, was on his way to teaching at the Augustana College and Theological Seminary in Rock Island in 1879.
His replacement, Rev. Carl Aaron Swensson, in turn was on his way to Lindsborg to become the Church's second pastor. Swensson had just been ordained as a minister of the Swedish Lutheran Church of the Augustana Synod on June 22, of 1879. His father, Rev. Jonas Swensson, had served the Synod as pastor until his death in 1973, in Andover, Illinois, where Swensson, as a youth, received his parochial schooling.
This photograph of the Bethany Lutheran Church as seen below would be the church that Swensson first knew. For more on Bethany Lutheran Church, click on the Church.
